The difference accounts for Ryde’s platform fees, service fees, and other operational costs necessary to run a safe, reliable, and compliant carpooling ecosystem.
Under the Road Traffic (Car Pools) (Exemption) Order 2021 and the LTA Point-to-Point (P2P) regulatory framework, carpooling in Singapore is regulated as a not-for-profit activity. This means that as a carpool driver, you are allowed to recover costs (such as fuel, tolls, and vehicle wear and tear), but you are not permitted to earn a profit.
Ryde retains a portion of the fare to support:
a. Technology infrastructure and platform maintenance
b. Incentives and Bonuses
c. Safety and trust systems
b. Customer support services
e. Regulatory compliance efforts
