Ryde Carpool operates under the Road Traffic (Car Pools) (Exemption) Order 2021 and the LTA Point-to-Point (P2P) regulatory framework, which regulate carpooling in Singapore as a not-for-profit activity. This means that carpool drivers may recover reasonable costs such as fuel, tolls, and vehicle maintenance, but are not permitted to make a profit from these trips.
To support the sustainability of the carpool ecosystem, a portion of the total fare is retained by Ryde to cover:
- Technology infrastructure and platform maintenance
- Customer support services
- Safety and trust systems
- Incentives and bonuses
- Regulatory compliance efforts
These deductions enable Ryde to continue operating a safe, reliable, and compliant carpooling platform for both drivers and riders.
Note: Carpool drivers are limited to two paid trips per day, in accordance with LTA regulations.
Considering Driving Beyond Cost Recovery?
Drivers seeking more flexibility and earnings potential may consider becoming PDVL Driver which allows for additional trip types and fare opportunities outside the carpool regulations.
